Region 5

Participants choose one in-depth topic
or a variety of sessions

OSMA’s Region 5 workshop attracts about 400 high school journalists and their advisers from central and southern Ohio. They will once again join newsroom and classroom pros at Otterbein University, spending the day getting better at what they love to do. This year’s event is Monday, Oct. 9.

The workshop offers five day-long sessions for students who wanted an immersion experience: Digital Photography 101, InDesign from A to Z, Create Your Playbook for Sports Coverage and Featuring the Feature, plus Solutions Journalism: Media responds to problems, the innovative ways some publications are learning to make a difference. Can your student publication do it, too? These are all hands-on opportunities to really explore a topic and take home something you have created.

Check out those sessions and pre-register for them in the Step-by-Step Guide. Students who want more variety choose three hour-long sessions from a list of topics to get a wide range of information in one day. This year’s draft program will be available a week before the workshop, but it will include writing, editing, photography, yearbook and more. Submit all your registration by Sept. 22 by mailing or scanning and attaching to email for OSMA graduate assistant Jordyn Austin jausti13@kent.edu.

We hope to see you at this year’s Region 5 workshop!
