Recognition

OSMA loves to recognize student journalists and the exceptional work that is happening in student newsrooms across the state.

Individual Awards

Awards are given in spring to students who submit work in over 50 different categories – ranging from newspaper/newsmagazine, yearbook, broadcast, podcast, and online. All students receive feedback from judges, and winners are also presented with award certificates.

Journalist of the Year 

Each spring, one graduating senior is chosen as the Ohio Student Journalist of the Year.  The Ohio winner receives a $1000 scholarship as well as a chance to compete at the national level for even more cash prizes.

Overall Publication Awards

Publications all over the state submit their work to be considered for the prestigious All Ohio ranking in either yearbook, newspaper, newsmagazine, or news website. In addition to an overall ranking, publications receive thorough and relevant feedback for improving their publication.
